Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Forward (forwardapphq.com and the Forward app for iPhone and iPad) helps people give their things away to someone nearby, who in return supports a charity. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and how long we keep it.

2. What we collect

We only collect what we need to run Forward:

  • Your account: your name, email address and profile photo. If you sign in with Apple, Google, Facebook or X, they give us your name and email address. With Sign in with Apple you can hide your email address.
  • What you post: photos, titles and descriptions of the things you give away, your area, the charity you choose and any suggested amount.
  • What you do on Forward: the things you ask for, who you give things to, your comments, and the reports you make and the people you block.
  • Technical data: our servers record requests, including IP addresses, to keep Forward running and secure.

3. What we don't do

  • We don't sell your data.
  • We don't show ads.
  • We don't use analytics, tracking or advertising tools, on the website or in the app.

4. How we use your data

  • To show your listings, name, profile photo and comments to other people on Forward.
  • To let people ask for your things, and to tell you by email and in the app when someone asks, answers or comments.
  • To suggest a title and description from a photo, if you choose to use that.
  • To keep Forward safe: we filter offensive words and look into every report.

5. Who we share it with

Other people on Forward see your name, profile photo, listings and comments. Apart from that, we only use these services to run Forward, each for the task described:

  • Hetzner hosts our servers, database and photos in the European Union.
  • Resend sends our emails.
  • OpenAI receives a photo only when you ask Forward to suggest a title and description from it. The app asks for your permission first, and you can turn it off in Settings. OpenAI does not use what we send it to train its models and keeps it for at most 30 days to prevent abuse.
  • Apple, Google, Facebook and X, if you choose to sign in with them.

6. How long we keep it

  • Your account, listings and comments are kept until you delete them or delete your account.
  • Server logs are kept for a limited time for security and then deleted.
  • Copies in our backups disappear as the backups are replaced.

7. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Delete account) or by writing to privacy@forwardapphq.com. Your account, listings, comments, reports and blocks are deleted straight away.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, and withdraw your consent at any time, for example to photo suggestions. You can also complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet).

9. Children

Forward is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
